Kamala Harris met Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, a day after he defended his country’s war in Gaza in a speech to Congress. Ms Harris, who did not attend the address, vowed to “not be silent” about suffering in Gaza. She also said she had encouraged Mr Netanyahu to accept a ceasefire. Earlier Ms Harris condemned “pro-Hamas graffiti and rhetoric” used in protests that took place in Washington ahead of Mr Netanyahu’s address. She called demonstrators who burned the American flag “unpatriotic”. “I support the right to peacefully protest, but let’s be clear: antisemitism, hate and violence of any kind have no place in our nation,” she said.
